 Powering Progress Towards Net Zero

Johnson Procurement Solutions (JPS) is proud to be playing a key role in one of the UK’s most significant infrastructure undertakings, supporting the Liverpool Bay CO₂ Transportation and Storage (T&S) project, the backbone of the wider HyNet North West initiative.

United Living Energy Limited, part of United Living Infrastructure Services (ULIS), was awarded the £250 million EPIC (Engineering, Procurement, Installation and Commissioning) contract by Liverpool Bay CCS Limited (LBCCS), a subsidiary of global energy-tech company Eni. JPS was selected by ULIS to provide strategic project procurement and expediting services for this critical programme of work.

The pipeline infrastructure, stretching over 34 km of new pipeline and 24 km of existing repurposed line from Ince in Cheshire to Point of Ayr in North Wales, will transport captured industrial CO₂ for permanent storage in depleted gas reservoirs beneath Liverpool Bay. This first-of-its-kind infrastructure marks a significant step in enabling the UK to meet its net-zero target by 2050.

“JPS are extremely proud of this contract award and have been working closely with the United Living Infrastructure project team since late 2024, supporting the early phase of the project and supply chain engagement. We now look forward to entering the next phase of the project and continuing our role through to delivery.”

-          Steven Johnson, Managing Director, Johnson Procurement Solutions

As part of the government-approved HyNet industrial cluster, granted a Development Consent Order (DCO) in March 2024, this transportation and storage infrastructure will initially support the movement of 4.5 million tonnes of CO₂ per year, with scalable capacity reaching up to 10 million tonnes by the 2030s.

The project is also expected to drive major socio-economic value, including the creation of 300 new jobs by United Living over the next two years, alongside an additional 300 supply chain roles. This investment in skills, employment, and regional development demonstrates the far-reaching benefits of the T&S infrastructure, economically and environmentally.

At JPS, we are proud to be part of this transformative initiative that will not only reduce carbon emissions but also contribute to a more sustainable and prosperous future for the North West of England and North Wales.
